Orphaned solar systems

Your solar company is gone. Your system can still be fixed.

Twenty-one solar companies serving Illinois were listed out of business in the state's 2025 report, and Illinois Shines names twelve more that could not finish what they started. If yours is on that list, you still have options, and some of them do not involve us.

Three things that are usually true

Your workmanship warranty is probably gone.

When a company liquidates, its warranties are unsecured liabilities and generally do not survive the bankruptcy.

Your equipment warranty probably survived.

Your panels and inverter are covered by the manufacturer, a separate company that still exists. Most major manufacturers are still honouring them. What you lost is the person who diagnoses the fault and files the claim.

You may be owed money by the state.

The Illinois Power Agency's Solar Restitution Program exists for exactly this. Worth checking before anything else.

Lists checked against the Illinois Shines stranded-customer resources page (updated August 2026) and the Illinois Power Agency's 2025 Consumer Complaints and Disciplinary Actions report (27 February 2026, errata 22 April 2026). The report also names Iowa Wind and Solar (Simpleray), Empire Solar Group, Headline Solar, Radiant Solar, Reficiency, Green Solar Technologies, PSG LMTD, Excel Home Solar, Green Home Makeover and Standard Eco; those companies do not have a page here yet.
