Solar installation and repair in Belvidere, Illinois

We install new systems, take panels off when your roof needs work, and fix systems other companies walked away from. Based in Rockford since 2021.

Local intro

The utility here, and the drive from Rockford.

This page covers Belvidere, Poplar Grove, Cherry Valley, Garden Prairie and Capron in Boone County, Illinois. Belvidere is about 12 miles east of Rockford, straight out US-20 or I-90 from our shop. If your address is on the edge of that, send it and we'll tell you straight whether we can serve you properly.

ComEd. ComEd serves Belvidere and Boone County.

Rock Energy Cooperative. Rock Energy Cooperative lists Boone County among its Illinois service counties, so a rural address in the north of the county may be a co-op member rather than a ComEd customer. The name on the bill settles it.

Permitting

How a permit runs in Belvidere.

We pull the permit and file the utility interconnection on every job. Here is who issues it and what they ask for.

City of Belvidere Building Department

The City of Belvidere Building Department at 401 Whitney Boulevard, Suite 300, (815) 547-7177, takes applications through its iWorQ online portal. The city adopted the 2021 International Codes and the 2020 National Electrical Code under Ordinance 703H, effective 1 January 2025. There is no solar-specific checklist, so a rooftop array goes in as a building and electrical permit with structural and electrical drawings.

Boone County Building and Zoning

Homes in unincorporated Boone County, including Garden Prairie, permit through Boone County Building and Zoning at 1212 Logan Avenue, Suite 102, Belvidere, (815) 544-6176. The county requires every application to go through Cloudpermit, works to the 2021 IBC and IRC, the 2024 Illinois Energy Conservation Code and the 2020 NEC, and needs Health Department site-plan approval for most structures, which matters for a ground mount.

Village of Poplar Grove

The Village of Poplar Grove runs its own Building and Code Department at 200 North Hill Street, (815) 765-3201, with an online permit portal and a 2024 fee schedule. No solar-specific form exists, so an array is permitted as building and electrical work.

Winnebago County Building Division (Cherry Valley)

The Village of Cherry Valley permits through the Winnebago County Building Division at 404 Elm Street, Rockford, (815) 319-4350, using the county's solar checklist.

Incentives

What Illinois Shines pays here.

ComEd serves this area, which puts a home here in Illinois Shines Group B. The program buys fifteen years of your system's renewable energy credits at a price the state fixes for each program year; since 1 June 2026 a home-scale system receives 50% at energization and the rest over six years. Illinois Shines figures are estimates until the program approves them, and Illinois Shines is not free solar.

Rural electric cooperative and municipal-utility customers are eligible for Illinois Shines too, but each co-op and municipal utility sets its own net-metering value, and the REC price group depends on which grid region the utility sits in. We confirm both before we put numbers in a proposal.

ComEd also pays a distributed generation rebate of $300 per kW on a system interconnected with a smart inverter, and Illinois lets you file form PTAX-330 so the array should not raise your assessment once you file the claim form.

The federal residential credit ended for installations completed after 31 December 2025. Business-owned systems still qualify for the 30% Section 48E credit if the project is in service by 31 December 2027. See what changed in 2026 for the full picture.
